effect of controlled sedation based on Richmond scale on the duration of mechanical ventilation in patients admitted to ICU

Background & objective: Patients treated with mechanical ventilation may need sedatives and analgesics due to discomfort, pain, lack of coordination the device, immunity maintenance, oxygenation elevation. The use sedation scoring protocols systems reduces duration hospitalization. Therefore, this study aimed investigate effect controlled based on Richmond model in patients admitted ICU. Methodology: This experimental was performed 60 ICU, who had been selected by simple random sampling divided two intervention control groups. data collection tools included Agitation Sedation Scale (RASS), Berne separation program checklist. In group, according standard protocol, but group received only routine care. After intervention, were collected at 24 hours, 48 ​​hours 72 hours after SPSS-21 statistical software, then analyzed descriptive statistics (mean, deviation) inferential (paired t-test, independent t-test repeated measure).
